Community Dialogue

Impacting lives, individuals and encouraging enterprise development within our environments

JOB BANK

During 2016/17, we worked with 29 referrals to our Job Club. We have referrals from local Churches, Local groups, voluntary organizations, individuals, and families. Our sessions include one to one and group sessions.
We provided online IT support on:

  • CV preparation
  • Job search support
  • Online registration and job applications for first timers
  • Basic IT training for new learners etc

We assisted 13 people to develop their CV, 9 were able to set up their online job search engines, 5 got Basic IT certificates and others attended our Job club workshop and interview sessions. We worked with the Employment Development team of Greenwich Local Labour and Business, Royal Borough of Greenwich to promote apprenticeship, training and job opportunities in the local area.
We collaborated with GAVS to present a seminar on Employability Skills to the BME community leaders representing different local groups/ organizations. The seminar was described as a valuable tool for job seekers.

ENTERPRISE WORKSHOP

The enterprise club was established to assist in creating job opportunities and reduce the rate of unemployment in the target community by providing free business start-up support, advice, information, inspiration and mentoring.

  • We promote creativity and confidence boost
  • Circulate useful information about business start-up
  • Generating business ideas
  • Provide tips for business start-ups
  • Hold sessions on social media support for business start-up and development
  • Discuss how we could overcome potential obstacles in business startup
  • Provide help with the basic business plan and marketing strategy
  • Share research on funding information and other document production

Over 100 participants attended the workshop out of which 20 are currently engaging with us in 1-1 sessions to develop their enterprise ideas further.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS

Engagement and networking events including free workshop on digital inclusion to promote the services and reach more targets were organised at three different venues in Plumstead SE18, Thamesmead SE2 & SE28 and Woolwich SE18 respectively.

A total of 43 people benefited from the Digital Inclusion workshop. They learnt how to access NHS choices online, complete public services application forms, online shopping safety tips, and using social media to connect family and friends.

Seminar on Raising Boys:

Collaboration with GGF in organising/presenting A Practical & Interactive Parenting Seminar for parents in the local community providing and developing parenting skills to improve and promote family values. 25 young parents attended the training delivered by experts in parenting, child protection, education and social care.
